We use Slack for day-to-day communication. Please ask Simon for an invite to mitchelllab-workspace.slack.com
Slack is available on phones and you may find this makes it easier to keep on top of things, but having Slack on your phone is not a requirement. If you do wish to have Slack on your phone you are encouraged to set up a notification schedule so you do not receive notification's outside work hours. While some of us work strange hours, that shouldn;t make others feel as though they need to respond during personal time.
For anything that requires more verbose description or where you want a paper-trail or to include those outside our lab, please use email.
There is a Whatsapp group shared with the Peppers for lab-based workers. If you want to be on this, please let Simon know.
Communication within the group is informal. We hope the lab is a fun place to work so encourage friendly communication within the . If someone says something you find offensive or you'd like someone to adjust their communication style to make you more comfortable please talk to them and then Simon if you are unable to resolve the issue directly.
When emailing people outside the group you are representing the Mitchell Group. Please keep all communication with those outside the group polite and professional. Some people are offended if they are not addressed by the correct titles (Prof, Dr etc) and this should be respected.
