You will have an annual appraisal. Usually these are compelted in the summer and must be completed before september. If you haven't had one and this deadline is approaching, please speak to Simon.
DO NOT WORRY about your appraisal. Simon doesn't let issues build up before for the appraisal so you wont suddenly be surprised by negative feedback. The appraisal is a chance to assess what experience and skills you have gained and determine what other experience Simon can help you gain. It is a chance for Simon to improve as a supervisor, and for you to maximise your experience of working in the lab. You will receive feedback on things you can work on to maximise your success.
Before the appraisal complete the appraisal form linked below.
Arrange a time to meet with Simon (an hour is usually enough but if you want more time feel free toarrange more time).
Bring a copy of the appraisal form with you.
It is always a good idea to think about your career direction and the job you want your current position to enable you to take once you leave. Therefore it is recommended to print out and read a job description for the type of position you are aiming for next. If you are a PhD student this may be Research Fellow, if you are a Research Fellow/postdoc the next role may be lecturer. These job descriptions are available at the link below, it is never too early to start ticking the requirements off for your next move!
